Obviously there are differences, but I find it interesting how similar Ireland is to the US when it comes to politeness and manners. Weird to think that so many countries dont look at things like holding the door for the next person as a common courtesy. I feel like the biggest difference is the swearing and politely declining things on the first offer, but beyond that Ireland sounds like a european version of the midwest.
I'm asking for help, would any of you point me in the direction of the best option there is when it comes to healthcare in california? Like any hacks or loops in the system information. I would appreciate it, Thank You.
What you don’t see is that the hospital actually got paid the $98k. This is an expense item for the insurance company, and is a tax deduction. Then because of their contract, they refund all of it except for the $17k the insurance company agreed to pay. That $81k back to the is a refund, which is… tax free. The hospital then claims the $81k as loss, which you guess it is… a tax write off. Then the insurance company refunds a percentage of that $81k back to the hospital as a negotiated contact adjustment. Which is… tax free.
Insurance companies negotiate much lower rates through contracts with hospitals. In this case, the hospital charged 94k (chargemaster rate), and insurance pays the 19k, which is the negotiated rate. Then, the person pays the deductable. That 75 k isnt a loss or a tax write off, its an accounting adjustment.
thats the best insurance i've ever heard of in america. there's always the part where you have to pay so many thousands of dollars out of pocket before they even step in, and it resets every year. I've never reached that amount.
I pay 0 dollars in Canada even it's a million dollar surgery and guess who pays for the medicines until 65? It's my extended health insurance from my employee. Also, dental is covered by employee until 65.
94,000 isn't the actual bill though. That's what the hospital ASKS for AFTER they care for you. Insurance "negotiates" it down to 17,000.
The actual cost the hospital would've needed to care for you was probably something like 5,000 or less. If they "ask" insurance for 5000, they will "negotiate" it to 200. So they inflate the bill and insurance will cover it at 3x what they actually need regardless. And it doesn't effect the insured people, because they only ~130 like he did. Uninsured people can't afford these inflated bills so they need to get insurance, hence why the insurance company is ok with paying the inflated bills. Your money goes to the insurance company where you will pay 10x what it would to just get the care at an honest rate, and the insurance pays the hospital 5x what they need to actually run the building. Every wins except you.
Seems like everything healthcare related in America is wildly overprices. I live in Denmark and even if I go to a private hospital, I wont end up paying bills anywhere near those amounts
Close. Every Dunning Kruger, first day of class level. Without the long history of Insurance companies destroying the humanity of the medical field, bill total is the hospital's pricing, and the "allowed" amount is the amount an insurance will pay for In Network, and covered care. You owe your deductible before any benefit is applied.
Any Out Of Network, non covered benefits will be charged to you, without your insurance helping.
But those prices that people love to blame on doctors, or hospitals, are the work of the insurance companies. Crooks created the market in the first place, and they control it to this day. Why are insurance companies allowed to invest your money, profit off of it, and have no legal requirements to return your investment? Wall Street Investors would be imprisoned for defrauding its investors. Billions in profits, even for small state size insurance companies, but they can refuse to cover a life saving treatment for a child because it "costs too much" at thousands of dollars. Ooh and then they write off billions, and claim "non profit" status for proving medicaid and medicare.
you have a outpatient procedure and bcbs slaps your deductible on top of the co ins making your bill cost just as much as the procedure and whats even crazier than that they are still gonna pay below what the bill says ins companies are a joke fueled by greed being healthy is expensive
So basically you get big bill Insurance pays a bit of it, the hospital that gave you the bill says “jk” so you only pay $130, the insurance pays what they want and the hospital evades the irs, insane.

So who loses?
The United States Healthcare System Is Worse Than 3rd World Countries
Except for the times when insurance decides they don’t want to cover it.
and the actual cost was just under what the insurance company paid
This is false. If the ins co does not pay, you pay. The hospital does not write off anything. They are already tax exempt.
So you’re basically paying in lieu of the hospital paying tax, the detriment of your other services. It’s a stupid universal healthcare

The USA system is a Huge Scam between the Hospital's and the Insurance company's overcharging for Healthcare of the citizens..🤔
Canadian: A few months back, I had to pay $5 for parking for an appointment, and I was pissed off about it.

It’s all a scam to avoid taxes.
What is this? Lol.

Like to know how you only owe $130 on a 70k bill? No insurance in the US is that good
The procedure – basic physical
GUYS I HAVE A GREAT IDEA, book a flight, come to Scotland, free healthcare truely the greatest strat of all time

Free healthcare… i go in and pay a symbolic sum of €5… and no silly tax evasion or giant industry that takes your money…
Which medical aid do you belong to

My hospital doesn’t write off the difference… they make me pay off whatever insurance doesn’t cover. Did you go to a county hospital?
Isn't this only how it works if you have insurance though, and you're inside of network?
They were trying to enslaved you by not giving more money to pay for it.
Nobody pays it?
In the end, the tax payer is the one who "pays" for it…

Still better than free healthcare! If it was Canada you’d still be waiting to see a Dr.!
And in the U.K. is free…..

Still screwed up, as it's basically legal tax evasion, but it's nowhere near as bad as the Europeans make it out to be
Are hositals pay taxes?
In my country they spend our taxes on hospitals
That's actually kinda genius because taxes are dogshit and make everything more expensive. This is a win-win.
Someone should explain why I still owe 65k on my bill for a 5 night stay in the ICU after my insurance accepted the claim.
So yeah, don't feel bad about not paying a 100k medical bill. The hospital can equally well write that off as a loss.
Reminder to not use the Lords name in vain, God bless

This is the way the world works in general now, we are all fucked
