Here’s a brand we haven’t focused on too heavily over the years – it’s time to list up our favourite Mammut hiking jackets for men and find out exactly what they have to offer. We’ve included options here for climbers, skiers, hikers and more leisurely explorers as well.

First time buyers might like to know a little context before they pick up their first Mammut hiking jacket. So, please bear with us as we dive into a quick history briefing.

Mammut is a company that caters mostly for the mountaineering and trekking market. Headquartered in a pretty Swiss city called Seon, Mammut has found its way to multinational appeal and become a well-established outdoor brand that’s always kept true to its roots.

A Little History Of Mammut

The brand was founded in 1862 by Kaspar Tanner, who lived in the small village of Dintikon. Switzerland is where the high quality of Kaspar’s outdoor products was first noticed and this long history reinforces a pride in tradition that is still held at the heart of Mammut.

It all began in the early days with rope making. The heritage of this brand traces back to a successful rope crafting enterprise, which lingers to this day as Mammut still produces some of the best products on the market.

Later, the humble ropemaking workshop transformed and turned into a global powerhouse, sprawling outwards from the fertile soils of Seon. As you’d expect, Mammut Sportsgroup has offices and subsidiaries around the world, but the seedling of this brand is still firmly planted in Switzerland.

The heart of this family business still beats strongly today. The name may have been changed to Mammut some 80 years after the company was founded. Yet everyone still remembers that young and talented ropemaker, Kaspar, who began his business back in 1862.

If you visited their headquarters in the mid-19th century you’d be knocking at the door of a small family-based rope factory. Now, this innovative outdoor brand has a worldwide reputation. Mammut exemplifies Swiss quality and the benefits of high performance alpine equipment.

The Values That Bind Us

Mammut has always focused on the sustainability of its products. A keen eye has been cast over their manufacturing processes, ensuring quality is prioritised at every turn. The brand stands for clean and ethical production, as well as animal welfare and a reduced footprint.

This isn’t just rhetoric, Mammut introduced the ‘We Care’ product line to represent and strengthen these values. Like many of the leading outdoor brands, they have changed and adapted their practices to promote sustainability.

The brand’s logo is a friendly mastodon, which pays tribute to an animal that is now synonymous with their durable mountaineering gear. Like their woolly namesake, Mammut is steadfast in the face of tough conditions. All their ropes, beacons, packs, boots and apparel are rigorously tested as well.

It may be true that a lot has changed for Mammut since 1862. However, this brand is still dedicated to safety and innovation. They have braved the blizzards of many decades, holding true to a passion for durability and functional performance, which Kaspar started all those years ago.
