Municipal Park Outdoor Fitness Project

A Greenfields Ninja Course brings a dynamic outdoor fitness experience to Campus Oaks Park in Roseville, California. Designed as part of the park’s phased development, the course complements other high-energy features including a planned skate track and bicycle pump track, helping create a cohesive destination for teens and young adults. These elements work together to engage users who have outgrown playgrounds or are not involved in organized sports, providing a flexible, self-directed outlet for movement, challenge, and social interaction.

Planning Insights from Campus Oaks Park

Campus Oaks Park illustrates how phased park development can introduce high-interest fitness amenities that expand use beyond traditional recreation features.

• Adds a challenge-based activity for teens and adults who have outgrown playgrounds
• Shows Ninja Courses integrated with action sports elements like pump tracks and skate parks to create a cohesive teen-focused recreation zone
• Supports long-term engagement by creating a destination feature within a new community park

Campus Oaks Adds a New Kind of Park Experience

Campus Oaks Park was developed to serve a growing area of Roseville with a mix of active and passive recreation amenities. The park’s design reflects a broader planning approach that integrates recreation, mobility, and community space to create a more connected and active environment.

Phase 1 introduced lighted pickleball courts, an off-leash dog park, multi-use paved paths, open turf areas, a covered picnic area, restrooms, and supporting park infrastructure.

The Ninja Fitness Course adds a different kind of activity to that mix. Instead of relying on traditional sports or playground-style recreation, it creates a flexible outdoor fitness space where users can climb, swing, balance, and compete at their own pace.

This type of installation is especially valuable for teens and young adults, a group that can be difficult to engage with standard park amenities and is often underserved in traditional park design. By combining play, fitness, and challenge-based movement, the course helps extend the usefulness of the park across more age groups.

Designed to Support Phased Park Development

Campus Oaks Park was built in phases, allowing the City to introduce core park amenities first and add more specialized recreation features over time. Phase 1, completed in Summer 2024, included pickleball courts, an off-leash dog park, paved paths, open turf areas, a covered picnic area, restrooms, and other park amenities.

The Ninja Fitness Course was completed in Spring 2025 as part of Phase 2, giving the park a more active, challenge-based feature. Additional action sports amenities, including a skate track and bicycle pump track, began construction in January 2026 and are anticipated to be complete in Spring 2026.

With this approach, Campus Oaks Park shows how municipalities can build momentum over time by combining everyday park uses with destination-style recreation features that encourage repeat visits and broader community engagement.
